Looking After Our Environment

The world has changed inconceivably over the past month. Our lives and businesses have been turned upside down or put on hold as we are in lockdown to keep ourselves and others safe.

Covid-19 has had such an impact on the UK so quickly, it is scary. During the downtime that has been forced upon us, we have taken stock to look at how we move forward when the current pandemic comes to an end and our lives return towards a stage of “normal”.

What we need to remember though, is that what will become the norm will look different from life before the virus. And we hope that will be a positive leap from where we were before in terms of our environment.

Looking after our planet

There is no escaping the fact that the natural world has benefitted from less pollution from industry, transport and people. Reports have shown clearer air in cities and animals are returning to what once would have been their natural habitat in places such as Venice and across the world.

Fewer people and the activity they bring with them is obviously having a positive effect on the environment. However, it won’t always be like this as we return to our lives in the coming weeks or months.

We can, however, make small changes for the greater good of the environment. Being aware of the impact of our own lives on others and the environment must be one of these. Charging your electric vehicle at home or providing electric charging points at your workplace is as important now as it ever has been.

Growing our electric network is one way we can do this, and having more electric vehicle charging points will encourage that.

Environmental benefits

We have written before about the environmental benefits of electric vehicles, but let’s remind ourselves of those:

  • Fewer exhaust emissions
  • Being able to charge with renewable energy
  • Eco-friendly materials on newer vehicles
  • Health benefits

As we think more about our world, these have to be high on the agenda. While it has been reported that Yorkshire has a poor ratio of charging points compared to other places in the country, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It is growing fast and there is an opportunity for businesses to benefit from showing their environmentally-friendly values.
