OLEV Grant Eligibility: Can I Still Claim?

Questions have arisen regarding OLEV grant eligibility for EV charging point installation following the recent announcement from the Government that the rate of grants for purchasing an electric vehicle has decreased with immediate effect.

We can confirm that this does not have any implications for the grants available for installing a charging point whether it is at your home or your place of business.

Generous OLEV grants of up to £350 are still available for customers who would like a smart charger installed at home, or if you are a business looking to install charging points for your customers and staff, this grant is available for up to 10 EV charging points – saving you £3,500.

What is a smart charger?

A smart charger is an incredible piece of kit that uses real-time data from your charging point – and those in your locality – to communicate with a cloud-based platform to ensure your vehicle is charged at the optimum time.

Smart chargers can work out the following:

  1. How much charge your vehicle needs
  2. How much power will be needed to charge your vehicle
  3. How many other vehicles in your area need charging
  4. How much power is being used in your local area

Using all of this information, the smart charger can then ensure your car is charged, without overpowering the grid.

Saving You Energy & Money

What is even better, is if you are on an electricity tariff where it is cheaper for you to use electricity at certain times in the day, your smart charger will factor this into the equation and can save you money.

There are a whole host of other smart features including diary scheduling to ensure your car is always topped up when you need it and other integrations but that’s for another post.

Trust us when we say, you’ll be amazed at this technology and how it can work for you.

Olev Grant Eligibility at Home

To qualify for an OLEV grant for an EV charger installation at home you only need to meet the following criteria:

  • Have an electric vehicle OR have one on order
  • Have private off-street parking
  • Choose a smart electric vehicle charging point
  • Use an OLEV approved installer

Olev Grant Eligibility at Work

Qualifying for an OLEV grant for charging point installation at your business is even easier. You must:

  • Be a business, public authority or charity
  • Have private off-street parking

OLEV Approved Installers

Ensuring you use an OLEV approved installer to install your EV charging point is vital. Firstly it means you can claim your grant towards the cost of your installation. Secondly, and most importantly – it gives you the confidence knowing that your installation team are qualified and the work being carried will be done correctly. To be approved the installer must be a qualified electrician AND have passed further qualifications to demonstrate their knowledge of vehicle charging point installation specifics.
